Well I figured that I might as well introduce the psycho that is the reason for all of Ivy's fears and issues. He's been around for years, but I've made very little mention of him.
This is Sedgley. Now how best to describe him without bypassing my PG language barrier?
I suppose a bit of history will be the best way.

Sedgley has for as long as Ivy's known him been a Serperior, and has been obsessed with her.
He is a complete chauvinist, and selfish monster with a major superiority complex.
He believe that Ivy belongs to him due to the fact that she is also a shiny of their species evolutionary line.
Ivy first met Sedgley when she was a young Snivy. She was playing with her three sisters not to far from where her family lived when he spotted her.
He became obsessed as soon as he saw her, he immediately advanced on her and her sisters. Who stopped their silly games upon seeing him, one of them ran to go fetch their parents.
By the time her parents got there Sedgley had grabbed her, and was trying to carry her off. (Despite her small size she did not make it easy on him.)
Upon seeing their daughter in distress due to this interloper Ivy's parents attacked Sedgley.
Despite being out numbered Sedgley held his own in the fight. Mostly because he is a big cheater. He managed to free himself from the to furious parents, and when for Ivy's sisters and brothers who were all standing near by watching. He killed all five of them with a single powerful blow from his tail, this low cowardly tactic gave him the opening he wanted. When their devastated mother heedlessly and blindly rushed towards her fallen babies, Sedgley snapped her neck with strike from his tail to her of her neck.
Ivy's father fought furiously for a time, but grief eventually overpowered him when Sedgley could not.
Shock, grief, and terror held Ivy in place as she watch all but one member of her family be killed in front of her. Only her eldest brother who had gone off on his own that day had escaped the massacre.
Ivy didn't even fight him when Sedgley carried her away.
She started fighting him not to long afterward though. She was terrified of him. She was terrified of angering him, but even more terrified of staying with him and letting him do what ever he wanted to with her.
So she eventually tried to run away.
She got lucky, as some poachers caught her, and took her far away across the sea.
She didn't like the humans to much, and escaped from them quickly.
Though she did end up enraging some Beedrill, and a Snorlax in the process of her escape.
She took shelter in a firewood stack, where by a young human girl and three Pokemon.
Ivy was in very bad condition when Erin Winters saved her. She fainted right after Erin pulled her from the wood stack, and she remained unconscious for five days.
When she awoke she had no memory of her past, only her first glimpse of Erin before she fainted in the girls arms.
Because of this Ivy attached herself to the girl and her family.
Despite having no memory of him, Sedgley hunted Ivy's subconscious always, she had nightmares filled with his eyes, the rasp of his scales, his deranged laugher.
These nightmares made no sense to her, but terrified her none the less. They lead her to be uneasy, and have panic-attacks at what seemed to be harmless things to the others.
Ethan, the Totodile that helped rescues her from the wood stack, helped her uneasiness during the day, but at night his presents brought her no comfort, but a curtain Charmander's presents did.
Charmin understood nightmares, he had had plenty of his own. So many in fact that he was pretty much an insomniac by the time he joined Erin's team.
Ivy and he would set up for hours at night, often not talking but just taking comfort in each others closeness until Ivy would fall into a mostly peaceful sleep. It was during these moments that Charmin fell in love with Ivy.
After Ethan dead, and Charmin was separated from the team Ivy's nightmares became worse.
And even after Charmin found them again, she continued to struggled to keep the dreams at bay, and keep herself from lashing out at the others. Something she often failed at.
Charmin got the brunt of it most often. One occurrence nearly destroyed their friendship and almost got them both killed.
M.C. the Raticate on Erin's team actually ended up saving them.
During their time in Unova, Sedgley ends up finding Ivy again. Luckily she was alone at the time or else Erin and her team might have suffered tragedy like Ivy's family did.
Charmin managed to find Ivy, and he took Sedgley by surprise by the way he looked, moved and attacked.
Charmin got Ivy away from Sedgley, but the Serperior still lived.
It took Ivy a really long time to calm down. Charmin cradled her against his cheat, and shielded her with his wings while she fell into a hysterics fit.
Charmin didn't take Ivy back to Erin and the others for about a week. During that time all of Ivy's repressed memories came rushing back.
She told Charmin everything. He deserved to know after all he'd put up with due to everting Sedgley had done to her.
When they did return to a very worried Erin and co, it was clear that the two of them had been through an ordeal. They both looked haggard, and Ivy rarely left Charmin's back and shoulders, and when she did she'd barely go five feet for him the remainder of the time they were in Unova.
Charmin and Ivy declared that they were mates upon returning to Cherrygrove city in Johto.
(Though being mates did not involve actually mating)
Ivy found Abby's egg a few months later.

Well now that I've finally put Ivy's backstory into words, I feel good. I've always struggle with writing it down for one reason or another. Not ever having inorduced Sedgley was a big reason.
And it took me 4 hours to wright it all down.
Sorry it's such a long wall of text, but hopefully it will help some of you better understand Ivy and her issues and hang ups.
And the title is a complete understatment. But I'm not sure what else to call it.
Oh! And this picture takes place during Ivy's 3rd and final encounter with Sedgley.
